Efficiency Maine is offering rebates for Ductless Heat Pump installations!
More than 45,000 ductless heat pumps have been installed in homes and businesses across Maine over the past five years. Long used for cooling in warm climates, heat pumps are now one of the most popular technologies for heating in cold climates.
Efficiency Maine offers rebates for high-efficiency ductless heat pumps for up to $1,500 for residential customers and incentives for commercial customers. Homeowners of any income qualify and the unit(s) must be installed by a registered vendor (which AFC is!) For more information on these heat pump rebates, please visit: https://www.efficiencymaine.com/about-heat-pumps/
How do Heat Pumps work? In winter, ductless heat pumps extract heat from outside air and deliver it indoors. Because they are moving heat rather than generating it through combustion or electric resistance, heat pumps can achieve efficiencies well above 100%. Long used for cooling in warm climates, heat pumps are now able to provide efficient heating in cold climates even at outdoor temperatures as low as -15 °F.
Ductless heat pumps consist of an outdoor unit connected to indoor air handlers by refrigerant lines, which carry heat between the two.
There are four types of units: Wall units, Floor units, Ceiling cassettes and Mini-Ducts.
Additional rebates available to qualified homes are as follows.
A $2,000 rebate if the homeowner receives heating assistance through LIHEAP.
Homeowner must provide proof of eligibility for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)
A $1,500 rebate if the home’s assessed value is below the county maximum (building and land combined before exemptions. See table on Efficiency Maine website.)
